The snow in Glenfarg has been there since 26 Nov, will winter ever end?
At last it’s gone, spring is here.
There will be a Downhill race in Perth, for women only, on the weekend of the 7/8th May 2011.
The organiser, Sarah Muir, is looking for entries from women who would like to try DH racing but want to try something a bit less serious than a Scottish Downhill Association race. The race will be on Deuchny Hill, on a course similar to the last Robofest race.
Visit www.divadescent.com for race details and entry forms.

Not such a good day today, perfect hypothermia weather, 3 degrees and raining.
You can’t really stay dry on a bike but you can stay warm. Here’s how;
Scott Excel bibshorts and bibtights,
Endura merino wool baselayer,
Altura Nightvision jacket,
Sealskinz MTB gloves,
microfleece buff,
and most important, Lake winter boots, the warmest boots you can get.
Not a bad day, 3 degrees, light westerly wind, dry.
Still lots of snow and ice in Glenfarg, a red squirrel ran across the road, the greys haven’t displaced them yet.
We had three teams this year.
John McLagan and Paul Innes in the pairs.
Fergus Lamb, Michael Boyd, Gavin Black and James Hendry in the quads,
Alisdair McKendrick, David McKendrick, Dave Martin and Grant Norcross in the quads.
It all turned out pretty much as you would expect for the Puffer, a wet, icy, muddy bike wrecking 24 hours. We went through heaps of brake pads & quite a few tubes, and have spent the last week cleaning and servicing all the bikes.
We finished 6th, 7th and 16th. Not as good as last year, but that’s the way the luck runs.

Not as bad as it seems, snow is actually quite grippy.
On a mountain bike use a mud tyre, on a road bike a treaded touring tyre or cyclocross tyre is OK. Take it easy, stay off the brakes and limit your effort to enough to keep warm.
However if its ice, you need studded tyres. Schwalbe and Conti make them for road and mountain bikes, or you can make your own with an old tyre and some short self tapping screws.

It’s the end of October and the season’s over. A lot of riders decide to take a break of a few weeks during the off season to recuperate, and many find that this break plays a valuable part in preparation for the following year, but it all depends on the individual rider. The main drawback with taking a break however, is that you’ll have a tougher time ramping up your fitness in time for the new season’s first race.
It’s very hard to maintain race fitness throughout the year. Even if you don’t take a complete rest from the saddle, start planning for next season now with a new training programme, identify which races you want to be at peak fitness, and consult a coach to get the best out of yourself and training regime.
So how is the training going now, you’ve had your chance to get fat and drunk at Christmas and New Year, now the snow is nearly gone you’re back on your bike?
